Ian was not the only one who didn't know it was a joke.  It should not
be up to the readers to figure it out, Bruce.  I know that I thought it
was rude and obnoxious, too.  Maybe it was obvious to you and John because
you already KNEW!  You've made it sound as though Ian was foolish and
unintelligent for not knowing you were JUST KIDDING.  It wasn't that obvious.
