While using the on-board modem I am getting tons of garbage
echoed back to my screen.

I switched to an external modem using kermit from a full screen
and it is better but I still get enough garbage to make any
connection tough to use.

Any tips on how to get better service from either of the above
methods or is there a better way to go??

btw: I am only using the modem for outgoing calls.
