I currently use Network Diskfit (by SuperMac, I think) which lets me back up my fileserver over a network without shutting down the server. I'm backing up onto the small 40Mb tapes used with Apple's tape drive. The problem is, the fileserver now contains more than 40Mb worth of stuff. So although I used to tell DiskFit to automatically begin the backup at night, now I'm stuck since I'll need to swap tapes. What can I do? Can I buy a tape drive that takes larger cassettes, and still expect DiskFit to work? I've also tried excluding some folders from the backup by giving them bracketted names (as per the DiskFit instructions), but this doesn't help because Diskfit assumes that I'll need more than one tape as soon as it sees that the server contains >40Mb (i.e., before it ignores the [bracket] folders). Also, if someone could tell me just what "partitioning" a hard disk means, whether I can partition a server, and whether this will do me any good, please let me know. Thanks much.
