Subject: Repairing MassMicro 40 Mb Harddrive?

The MassMicro harddrive in problem is a 40 MB, bought in 1988.
There has been a few months since I noticed some files dissapeared
from the directory, also more and more frequent "crash" (meaning
disk error).  Now, I could not even start my system on this drive.
I could get the harddrive icon once in many trials, but some files
are still missing.  I tried to diagnose it by Desinfectant
and got someting like "mechanical problem" in the drive.
I have two quetion here:

         First, what is the problem and if it is repairable, how
much the cost of repair would be.
         Second, who can do it.  I don't think I can do it.
