A friend of mine with no net access has recently bought 1.5 for his 386 with an ESDI disk. After preparing a partition with MINIX fdisk for MINIX he installed that partition as the root device. The first four partitions are organized as follow: Partition: 1 2 3 4 | MSDOS | MSDOS | MINIX | SCO UNIX 3.2.1 He uses the UNIX boot program as the default. Some days ago he tried to boot MINIX from the boot-disk. To change the root device he uses the "r" option but he made a mistake, he selected the wrong partition as the MINIX root-device. MINIX stops with the "invalid root file system .." _but_ also crashed the UNIX boot program. Rebooting let him access MINIX but not UNIX or MSDOS. He verified this behaviour by reinstalling UNIX and doing the same mistake (I think he selects partition 4) again. His question is: Why does MINIX crash the UNIX boot-program/boot-block ? -- -- Ralf Wenk -- ralf@ptavv.ka.sub.org
