Keywords: SCSI, Macintosh, SCO, Unix, PC, EISA Message-ID: <1991Mar06.193257.25099@group1.UUCP> Date: 6 Mar 91 19:32:57 GMT Sender: van@group1.UUCP (Van Bagnol - Team One) Organization: Group One, Ltd.; San Francisco Lines: 22 We were thinking of getting a SCSI controller card for our Compaq 386 so we can interchange infrequently-used peripherals, such as a CD-ROM drive and a DAT drive, between the Compaq and our Macintoshes. Our Compaq is running SCO-Unix and already has a number of other devices connected to it: Ethernet, Digiboard multiple serial ports, 9-track controller. 1. Are such cards available? 2. Are they cable-compatible with SCSI devices made for Macs? 3. How does SCO Unix treat devices on a SCSI bus? Are there different ways of installing/configuring them? Do SCSI IDs have to be set in stone for Unix to recognize different types of devices? 4. Must you have to reboot Unix :-( or even power down the machine <:-O to attach/remove devices, even temporarily? For example, "borrowing" the DAT drive to do a quickie backup on a Mac, and returning it later. As you can see, we are still novices at this kind of thing. Any help/advice/warnings would be appreciated. Thanks. Van Bagnol -- Van Bagnol / Group One, Ltd. / (415) 398-7565 / "Be cool, have fun." "Do what I mean, not what I say."
