	Following the advice of Floyd Davidson and others, I tried 
cleaning the write protect sensor.  The old drive (55B) now works!
Now I have this nice new 55BR sitting here... I'll probably throw
it in my PC; I'd still appreciate it if someone would tell me what
the jumper settings should have been, or otherwise explain what
the problem might be...
