Monsters regenerate their health points, but at a far slower rate than you do... thus if you slam a door in their faces and sleep to get back your health, you don't have to worry that they'll be fully rested too.. but if you leave an area and come back much later, the monster may have regained his health... The Dragons are tough to kill... if you find a stairway nearby, you can run up and rest, or use the "up and down the stairs" method of running down, blasting him, then running back up before he can roast you..
