Looks very much like the old problem with ancient hard disk drivers disabling the interrupts while writing to the hard drive, thus locking out the serial.device from reading the incoming bytes periodically. Solutions: Try to figure out whether your harddisk configuration software has a switch labeled 'Disable Interrupts' (or lookalike) or not. If it has: Forbid the disabling of interrupts while accessing the HD. If it hasn't: Download to RAM: and copy the files to your HD when you are finished with your telecommunications session.
