Presumably, if it's an external modem, you'll also need a Super Serial
Card (or compatible).

An excellent term program is Z-link which is available via ftp
from wuarchive.wustl.edu in the usenet/comp.binaries.apple2/Comm
directory.

If you want to go the store bought route, Ascii Express (mouse version)
and ProTerm are both good programs.
