I also use thick pixels with no problem and I have the CAPS-LOCK-Q-MAKES-q 
ROMs.  Perhaps you need to adjust your VDC mode (User Environment menu).
i have mine in mode one... you might also want to check on your NTSC/PAL
mode, although I don't think that makes a difference.
