Subject: Rainbow DOS recovery--HELP!

I have a Rainbow with a 10 Meg hard disc and 2 floppy 
drives.  I am running DOS 2.1.  I erased my xywrite 
directory by typing "del *.* fon" instead of "del *.fon". 
(a hard lesson well learned) so,
Is there any recovery leads any one  can help me with --
I called DEC, DECUS, asked our local mavens, and
a generous gentleman in Washington DC who suggested dumping 
everything from the hard drive to floppies--
Is there a version of Norton for this machine?
I tried bouncing Norton UD 4.0 off the VAX to the Rainbow
drive B:  It didn't work. 
It's about 900,000 K  in about 180 files.
