This is all news to me.  The version of Pirates I have (1032.01 (US))
is doubly protected.  There is the lookup scheme you mention plus a 
master disk scheme.  Do you mean that there are versions out there 
without the master disk CP, or did you both somehow have a master
disk but no manuals?
