Do what I do (lowly user who had to live with MacWrite 1.2 for a LONG TIME, and learned how to read text the hard way...) :-) USE RESEDIT, DISKTOP, DESKZAP, MACTOOLS, etc. etc. etc to change the file type from fullwrite, word, etc. to TEXT, zap the creator field, and open with your favorite (or in my case, only) word processor. Everything is usually readable (save the pictures, and word fast-saved files), and everyone's happy. But I do agree, use MacWrite (NOT II version, older versions...) or the best, TeachText.
