For two reasons: 

It's the only "super" drive among a group of five Macs, and

It's kinda flakey in general, and as we've seen, very flakey 
when writing onto 800k floppies originally written by 800k
drives.
 
I'd like to put an 800k floppy inside to replace the 1.4mb.
Is possible?
