When I purchased the disk I got as part of the deal a formatting program called Storware made by a company called Unimac. I gather that this is meant to be a competitor to Silver Lining, the only generic SCSI formatter I know of. I don't think it competes very well. While formatting the disk was a breeze, as was partitioning (seeing as I only wanted HFS partitions--no options for any different partition types such as A/UX needs), it has some problems. One of the partitions has become unmountable (only a 140MB one, why should I care :-< ) and the software cannot update it to usability again without reformatting the whole hard disk. Attempting to mount it crashes my machine into Macsbug. I don't know what to blame for this state of affairs. I had three empty partitions, and one of them is suddenly unusable.I just hope that one of the partitions that I am using does not suddenly go this way. My other gripe is that the INIT that comes with it (basically used for determining which partitions should be mounted at startup) crashes on my machine. I suspect that my problems come from the 32 bit nature of the FX, but I can't know for sure. My questions are: can anyone else confirm or deny the problems I am having with this Storware software (should I stop stuffing around and go and buy Silver Lining now)? Is there a newer version than the 2.0 formatter I am using currently? -- +-----------------------+----------------------------------------------------+ | Philip Craig | ACSnet,Ean,CSnet: philipc@runxtsa.runx.oz | | RUNX Unix Timeshare | Arpa: philipc%runxtsa.runx.oz@UUNET.UU.NET | | Wahroonga NSW 2076 | Janet: philipc%runxtsa.runx.oz@UK.AC.UKC |
