I'll throw in what I know and feel. I'm inclined to agree that Apple will charge for the upgrade. Hopefully, it'll only be $50.00, but I can see it being as high as $75-$100. :-( The bad news is, I think we'll need the manuals. Based on my experience with 7.0b1, it will significantly increase the difficulty level of dealing with system software. Not that this is bad, but it's jsust many new users will not be sureif a DA is a System Extension, or a Startup file. This new organisation for the system folder is great for veteran users who are tired of waiting for the Font/DA mover. Most software seems to be comaptible, even Word ran under b1. There will be things that do not work though. I can say now, QuickKeys won't work. I have not seen version 2.0 though. Is it worth it? That's a judgement call. For those who need more than 8 megs, yes by all means, get it. I have not experimented with more thna 4, but System 6 won't let you go past 8 without being a real problem. For those who now have say 16, you'll need the extensions. 7.0 will also be a boon to new users in a small way. The ballon help feature will give new users exposure to HD organization and help them along with simple language and useful tips. At the store, we get many students who bring in HDs with multiple systems, totally screwed up desktops, and many more that are so disorganized, you wonder how they found anything. Ballon help will give new users a handholding process that was previously lacking. Bad news, it'll casue a whole lot panick when things don't work or they don't work like they used to. Can't win'em all I guess. One last note, B1 is more stable than many regular System releases that I've seen, maybe there is hope after all :-). -cheers and chastise that IBM user in the next office- -Allen Hsu-
