The operations were performed on a prototype high density Exabyte drive. The Exabyte tape unit was connected in an extended SCSI chain, as follows: QuantumLP105S---slab---prototype---Exabyte8500---Wren6-------Powered Unit Nr.1 Unit Nr.2 Unit Nr.5 Unit Nr.0 Terminator /home /opt tape AutoBoot (by Wren6) I spent much too much time looking for "/dev/rst1" until I tried simplicity. I finally used the direct interactive method, and found success: *******beginning of on-line notes****** mt status after Exabyte is loaded with cartridge: Exabyte SCSI tape drive, residual=0 Sense Key = 0x40 # Sense Code = 0x00 Sense Byte 0x13 = 0x01 Sense Byte 0x14 = 0x00 Sense Byte 0x15 = 0x00 Sense Byte 0x16 = 0x00 mt offline is used to eject the cartridge: mt status after Exabyte is placed offline: Exabyte SCSI tape drive, residual=0 Sense Key = 0x02 # Not Ready Sense Code = 0x3a # No tape is present Sense Byte 0x13 = 0x02 # Logical unit not ready Sense Byte 0x14 = 0x00 Sense Byte 0x15 = 0x00 Sense Byte 0x16 = 0x00 ******end of on-line recording********* I then tar'red an 80 Megabye partition in about 8 minutes(approx. 160Kbytes per second). I'll try to untar, dump and restore tommorow, if anyone cares. .
