I did utilize a brand new Exabyte EXB-8500 for tar operations today using my
NeXTslab with O/S-2.0std(compressed O/S, no compile, no man). The operations
were performed on a prototype high density Exabyte drive.

The Exabyte tape unit was connected in an extended SCSI chain, as follows:

QuantumLP105S---slab---prototype---Exabyte8500---Wren6-------Powered
 Unit Nr.1             Unit Nr.2    Unit Nr.5   Unit Nr.0   Terminator
   /home                 /opt         tape       AutoBoot   (by Wren6)

I spent much too much time looking for "/dev/rst1" until I tried simplicity. I
finally used the direct interactive method, and found success:

mt status        after Exabyte is loaded with cartridge:
Exabyte SCSI tape drive, residual=0

mt offline       is used to eject the cartridge:

I then tar'red an 80 Megabye partition in about 8 minutes(approx. 160Kbytes
per second). I'll try to untar, dump and restore tommorow, if anyone cares.
