VMS TeX has, since sometime around 3.0/3.1 (the second number is the change file version number) been a big TeX. VMS TeX 3.1/3.5 will have Klaus Guntermann's TeXtrie changes for expanding hyphenation memory, but there are some difficulties with the blocking used by VMS on binary files which I haven't worked around yet. -dh
