    You could try replacing the following line in the WIN.INI or
    SYSTEM.INI file (don't remember which one...):

    Shell=PROGMAN.EXE

    with

    Shell=<application>.EXE

    I think this is documented in some of the .TXT-files that
    came with Windows.
