The manual and the manufacturer's technical support people recommend cleaning the electrostatic membranes with a brush attachment on a home vacuum cleaner. Every 3 to 4 months is supposedly a good idea. The last time I had done this was September of 1990. This last weekend I got up the nerve to do it again - those membranes look SO fragile. The result: the soundstage widened by about 4 feet total on most recordings, the midrange was more transparent and detailed. Some instruments imaged in places I hadn't believed possible before. I'm still hesitant to do this anymore than absolutely necessary and I open the vent on the side of the vacuum hose to reduce the suction. BUT, the improvement in sound was significant. Just a helpful hint from Heloise. -Keith McIntyre
