For reasons which I won't go into, we changed the default maximum
number of open files for a process is 32. After we did this, we
noticed that sendmail started compaining about too many open files
when creating queue files, piping to mailers etc.

I find it hard to imagine that sendmail would need to have more than
32 files open at once. Does anyone have any ideas?
