To cut it short, I can't get an Adaptec 4000A to accept any defect lists with the FORMAT command. Several people told me that this is due to some firmware bug in the Adaptec 4000A, but noone could give me details on it. I'd like to learn from some SCSI wizard here that this is all nonsense, the Adaptec 4000A is OK, and I must have been heavily drunk while programming my formatting routines. _If_ there is a firmware bug, are there upgrade ROMs for it?
