Cisco router with only TCP/IP turned ON. The problems are: 1.The arp cache of both HP9000 & Cisco show the MAC address of X-Terminals corresponding to a VAX station. 2. I cleared the Cisco arp and tried to ping the X-terminal, the entry in the arp cache related to the X-terminal comes back with same VAX MAC address. This thing happens even if the X-Terminals are not on the network. 3. Surprisingly this process works with X-terminals booting from HP9000. The overhead is packets going first to the router and then to HP9000. However after some hours Cisco fails to route the packets and the X-terminals lockup. Question: Can the Cisco get MAC level addresses from HP9000 or from any other host when X-terminals are not on the network? Thanks in advance qureshi@trace.eng.wayne.edu
