I did the exact same thing on the /dev/rheader0 partition. It took me two days to get the machine up fully. I figured when I typed format it would at least give me some warning with an option to abort if major damage could be done. I have since built a shell around the format command to prevent any unwitting successor (or my own forgettful self) from repeating the mistake.
