I've got an answer for you but it probably isn't the one you are looking for.

Don't run FASTBACK (or any other backup program) under Windows (or any other
multi-tasker).

It just simply is not good policy to make a backup of a file system while
other things have active access to that same file system.  An unreliable
backup is worse than no backup at all because it lulls you into a false
sense of security.
