This is a newer version of xgif which supports almost any kind of display including 2bit monochrome monitors. I have compiled it for SUN SPARCS and have run it on CG6? and also on a SPARCSERVER390 Console which is monochrome. XV is much more better that xgif (Which I also have) since it will save as X11 bitmaps, support various types of planes doing b/w dithering to adjust for 2plane B/W. It also does cropping, scaling, saves, multiple files, etc. Enough sales pitch.... You can get it from export.lcs.mit.edu (used to be expo.lcs.mit.edu) or from comp.sources.x archives.
