I have another problem, and that is that I have to have higher-level access in order to move things into the app-defaults directory when I am installing X applications for my personal use. If I set the XAPPLRESDIR variable to a personal app-defaults directory, I have to link in all the other app-defaults files in this directory. (If there is another way, please let me know.) A very simple solution to both of these problems just occurred to me; so simple in fact that I feel certain the X Consortium has considered it, but I thought I'd throw it on the net anyway. Have an environment variable called XAPPLRESPATH instead of XAPPLRESDIR. I think this is pretty self-explanatory.
