I am the product of the mainstreaming theory, and I am happy to say that it was successful. I have been mainstreamed since age 4. However, I can't say it is fool prrof, and believe me, I know that much. I have seen other results of mainstreaming in other deaf people and it saddens me that they have such difficulties adjusting. I understand that SEE doesn't fit the processing mind of the visual deaf. I feel very alone among the deaf that I have an unique outlet in BOTH the hearing community AND the Deaf community. I have never met any like me. This looks like THE place to meet people like me, and I am happy to finally discover this BBS. I do not know where I stand in the educating for the deaf, since it (mainstreaming) worked for >ME<. It doesn't seem to work for any one else. At least not in this location. I'm more or less neutural towards the schooling of the deaf, however I do believe that ASL is the best medium to teach in. -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!275!429!Tim.Smith Internet: Tim.Smith@f429.n275.z1.fidonet.org
