My initiation to the treatment was similar to yours - oral tetracycline twice a day for 45 days. Result - one well bird, afraid of people. Since then (1985) I have instead used an injectible tetracycline which is given once per week for about 3 weeks. Result - well bird, not so traumatized by the experience. You might ask your vet about the intection alternative, even if it means taking the bird to the vet 3 times, it is still much easier on you. Our vet was willing to let us take the medication home and do the shots ourselves; it's not too difficult if your vet will show you how. In either case, I suggest that you do not curtail the dosage or duration of the treatment; otherwise you will have to go after it again in the future. Susan Baker
