That is, if you do the initial training right, and have a good relationship with your dog, the dog will learn to respect the fence very quickly; the training will last a long time; and you'll be happy with the results. We've had 5 or 6 dogs on our system at different times and are very happy with it. A knowledgable electroniker could certainly duplicate the system on a homebrew basis for _much_ less than the commercial price, however...
