I am interested in incorporating pre-recorded sound in a real time medical
simulation program running on a 386 PC.
The most important need is that the CPU is lightly tied up with playing back 
the sound files, due to the nature of the application. That's why CPU-greedy
public domain solutions using PC's speaker are not satisfactory.
High sound quality is NOT a necessary aim.
So a very fast play-back sound hardware plus interrupt-driven software is
what would be, I think, the target. 
Any information on this subject (existing hardware/software) would be
very helpful.
