I am using 0.5 grayscale on a 300dpi printer (GCC BLP IIS).  My output is
a checkerboard, with each square of size 4 x 4 pixels.  Why aren't the
squares 1 x 1 pixel?  

I am using a "postscript literal" within a dvips (Rokicki) generated
postscript file, if that makes any difference.
