I finally ordered vol 3 of Apple's Toolbox Reference, and found that setting password fields is even easier than anyone suggested. I found that by setting the high bit on the maxSize field in a lineedit control item in an ordinary dialog box, asterisks would be echoed when keys would be pressed. Nothing more sophisticated is needed. I checked it out, changed the size to 0x800A rather than 10, and I had my password field. It's all on Page 34-2.
