(We use excess capacity. Tymnet's (and Telenet's) real moneymakers are the big corporations that use X.25 links to ship massive amounts of data around. Granted, the biggest ones have direct X.25 links; but many of them depend on data coming from/going to smaller companies that can't justify hanging X.25 hardware off their computers.) If they announce that they're doing this, the fear is that many corporations will scream for them to change their (or their vendors'/customers') local node(s) over quickly. Which can't be done without causing even more screaming... So they're doing it slowly and quietly, to minimize the aggravation to themselves and their bigger customers. Sure, it aggravates *us* a bit when we find out, but remember that we're not their real moneymakers. We just have to live with it.
