The wires are unlikely to affect the power supply in any way. The major thing you have to watch for is the voltage of the fan. A lot of systems use DC fans (usually 12v, because it is available) rather than 115v AC fans. I believe this is because the DC brushless fans produce less electrical noise, and they are also usually smaller.
