   I've discovered that my "Hayes Compabible" modem isn't what was advertised.
   Since I have to buy a new modem, and I'd like it to run UUCP on my NeXT,
   would the people who successfully use UUCP heavily please post the
   modems they enjoy using?  (Particularly 2400 baud modems).

   Any information on cost and source for the modems is appreciated too.

Depends on how much you want to spend, but I really like the
Telebit t2500, or even the t1600.  I hear they can be had for
around $750 (t2500) or $500 (t1600).  The nice thing about the
t2500 is that it does both PEP (telebit's proprietary, very high
performance protocol for use with uucp) and v.32 (ordinary 9600
baud for interactive use).  The t1600 does v.32 too, but no PEP.

If you just want a 2400 baud modem, most any Hayes Smartmodem
clone ought to do.  I used to buy modems on a regular basis by
calling 1-800-USA-FLEX, but I did have an obnoxious return
problem with them once (they sold me an "MNP error correcting"
modem that consisted of a regular modem plus a floppy disk for
an IBM PC MNP program, and didn't want to take it back).
