This substance may not be readily available and may require some >custom synthesis Steve Jacobs astutely pointed out to me in email that my attempt at creating a IUPAC name for dimethylallyl sulfide is not correct. I created the IUPAC name from scratch, after thinking about 1-chloro-2-butene (methylallyl chloride), which I have encountered. Obviously, I forgot to omit the chlorine! Also, upon further reflection, I had omitted some IUPAC "trimmings". So, let's try this again for a IUPAC designation: 1,1'-thiobis[2-butene] IUPAC nomenclature notwithstanding, the substance may also be referred to by the following: dimethylallyl sulfide dimethallyl sulfide dicrotonyl sulfide dicrotyl sulfide Isn't organic nomenclature just fun? :-) Larry Lippman @ Recognition Research Corp.
