Keywords: Navstar Global Positioning System Message-ID: <1991Mar15.035636.8981@cbnews.att.com> Date: 15 Mar 91 03:56:36 GMT Sender: military@cbnews.att.com (william.b.thacker) Organization: Landmark Graphics Corp., Houston, Tx Lines: 20 Approved: military@att.att.com From: cl@ (Cameron Laird) A few weeks ago, I initiated a brief thread on whether the Iraqi Army might be exploiting the DoD's GPS to facilitate Scud target- ing (and I repeat my note from them: I am *not* making or criticizing any policy stand. I was and am just curious about the technical realities). Please note that pages 1012-1014 of the 1 March 1991 *Science* review this system in language for the literate layperson. *Science* is available in libraries all around the world, and I recommend the article to those who have no access to more technical sources. The article's conclusion: Navstar is ahead of schedule, it's not entirely clear where it's going, but recent events have made the US military only more enthusiastic about its tactical possibilities. -- Cameron Laird USA 713-579-4613 cl@lgc.com USA 713-996-8546
