Diana Deutsch wrote an article for Scientific American entitled "Musical Illusions" (vol 233 in 1975, pg 92). Albert Bregman also discusses quite a few in his new book "Auditory Scene Analysis". - lonce p.s. Jean-Claude Risset (IRCAM) has popularized the "Sheppard" illusion by incorporating it into his music (using computers).
