This was suggested by someone else already in some mail sent to
me; however, I lost the message and can't remember who sent it.
I'm *real* rusty on hast tables and can't think of a way to
combine N letter fragment into a value for looking into a hash
table.  Perhaps some hash expert could help in this area?  I'm
also curious as to whether [sic] this could be a nice compromise
between memory usage and generation time....

[hmmm...seems my sig file works ok now...wonder why it hasn't
 over the last month?...life is a mystery]
