There are now lists of online library catalogues that are regularly updated
and distributed. Is there an equivalent for whois/finger/etc or other
tcp/ip directory service type servers for the Internet? For example, we
provide such service for 'uoregon.edu' based on our campus phone book (plus
some email stuff we tracked down and added) from the host
'oregon.uoregon.edu'. I happen to know that Stanford has a comprehensive
whois service out of 'stanford.edu', and that a number of sites are
participating in the Nsyernet White Pages project. What I am looking for is
a list of as many such sources as possible, ideally searchable on
institution, like "University of Chicago".
