My sister plays this game a lot and always starts the game off by capturing one or both of the fleets. I've done it a couple of times, but don't play Pirates that regularly. The problem is that you always start the game in one of the years listed so you really have to move quickly to get enough men and ships to capture the fleet and all it's cargo (of course if you're only interested in the money, you don't need as many ships). If you goof up... the next chance is 20 years away.
