It has been around since 1988. It was initially developed by people at OPCODE. It is a very good standard; it supports multi-track and multi-sequence files, META-events, and SMPTE. Standard MIDI Files are transportable between sequencer programs and computers quite easily. I hope one day patch editor programs will be able to export their sys-ex to a Midi File, so people can send out the sys-ex from their sequencer. Jeff Koftinoff
