Message-ID: <1991Mar21.062024.23159@marlin.jcu.edu.au> Date: 21 Mar 91 06:20:24 GMT Article-I.D.: marlin.1991Mar21.062024.23159 Organization: James Cook University Lines: 35 Hi, I need some help connecting a black box with a Macintosh serial port. This box is currently being used on an IBM-PC connected with a home-made cable. The plug on the IBM-PC is a DB-9 and the connection on the black box is a DB-25. The cable setup is as follows: DB-9 DB-25 DCD 1 ---| RTS 7 ---| CTS 8 ---| DTR 4 -----| DSR 6 -----| RD 2 --------- 2 SD 3 --------- 3 GND 5 --------- 7 I'm trying to use this black box on a Macintosh with a mini-DIN 8 plug. What I need to know is if it is necessary to do the same fooling around connecting DCD, RTS and CTS as well as DTR and DSR on the 8 pin plug. I've read the bit in the Family Hardware Reference about connecting the RxD+ and the GND and reading and sending the data through TxD- and RxD- but am unsure about what needs to be done with the rest of the signals. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Terry. -- Terry Rawlings cstar@marlin.jcu.edu.au Cyclone Structural Testing Station James Cook University
