Try DiskDoubler from Salient.

If you double-click the compressed file(s), it will decompress the
file(s) and call up the main application for you.  When you quit the
main application, it will then re-compress your (once compressed)
file(s).

Also, if you main application happened to be compressed at that time,
DiskDoubler will also decompress your main application then
re-compress it back when you are done.

Compressed will also show up in the open-dialog.  Well, about 90% of
them anyway.
