But applications can override this by calling a new routine SetOutlinePreferred, to force the use of the outline in all cases. By the way, there is always a FOND, even if there are no bitmaps. The FOND resource is the one that carries the family ID, while the sfnt, like an NFNT, has a totally random ID. The sfnt ID is stored in the FOND as an entry for "size 0" of the font.
