Marc asks whether the IBM TeX and Metafont PRPQ for the 6000
is expensive.  The US price is $275, which includes
TeX
LATeX
Metafont
AMSTeX (mathematical extension)
BibTeX a "bibliographic compiler"

A number of pre-generated font files are included for use with
TeX.  Also included is font description data which can be used
as input to Metafont in creating additional font files.

I presume that a user could ftp, compile and build these same 
objects from publically available sources
