Thanks to all the people who answered my query re : future of cray
as has been pointed out to me - i am out of touch
a couple of people suggest i go look in library (which is where i read 
my only info on cray stuff) this was in scientific american jan 1991 p79 and
it paints a picture of chen as being "the bright eyed boy after cray left"
as i am not
    1) an academic
    2) own a cray
    3) obviously upto date!
i was just interested in a few comments from 'knowledgeable' people. 

maybe its not the right place to ask questions like this but australia is a
a long way from the action.
