Hello; I am new to TeX and am trying to install it on a
DECstation 5000 and/or 3100. I have recieved the files
from labrea.stanford.edu (TeX3.0.tar.Za?) and the files from
ics.uci.edu (web2c5.8.tar.Z and web-5.8a.taarZ). I am
consistently having problems when it comes to running "tangle"
on tex.web and ctex.ch, tangle spews out long lists of mismatches,
Improper numeric definitions, input lines too long, name
mismatces.... This seems to happen whether I use the the TeX3.0
web/tangle or the web-5.8a stuff.

I have checked the byte sizes of all the tranfered files,
I have tried cc and gcc (osf-gcc).
I am specifying /bin/sh5 when I "make"
We have DECstation 5000/200 with Ultrix 4.1
I "defined ansi" in site.h

Any help would be appreciated
